Martha Elizabeth Briggs, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 4, 2024. Born on January 17, 1936, in Williamsburg, Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy Marsh Morris.
Martha was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System. She embraced her faith early on, first as a member of New Quarter Baptist Church, and later becoming an active and devoted member of Chickahominy Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until her passing. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her church community were the cornerstones of her life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Morris; sister Corrine "Sally" Holmes; daughters, Germaine Johnson, Loretta Briggs, and Mona Briggs; son Derrick Briggs; a granddaughter, a grandson, and two great-grandsons.
Martha leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, carried forward by her surviving family: her children, William Briggs III, Dorothy Parrott (Robert), Victoria White, Cecilia Johnson, and Thomas Briggs; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Homegoing services to celebrate Martha’s life will occur at Noon on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Chickahominy Baptist Church. Interment to follow in New Quarter Baptist Church. Mrs. Briggs may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
