Martha Louise Smith

Martha Louise Smith was born on March 8, 1947, the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Johnson of New Kent County, Virginia.  She transitioned from this earthly journey to eternal joy on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was educated in the New Kent County Public School System.  She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and joined Lebanon Baptist Church, New Kent County.  Later in life, she relocated to York County, Virginia.

On November 9, 1969, Martha was united in holy matrimony to Harold E. Smith.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Carolyn and Evelyn.

“BeBe,” as she was affectionately called, enjoyed a simple and quiet life.  She loved her children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Betty Whitfield, Rosa Toliver, Howard Johnson Jr., Clyde Johnson, Barbara Chisman, and grandson, Corey Spencer Jr.

She will forever be remembered by her daughters, Carolyn Jones of Newport News and Evelyn Smith of Yorktown; grandchildren, Cameron Jones, Victoria Smith, Kaytrice Spencer (Corey Sr.), Brittany Jones, and Chela Harrell; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Raymon Johnson and Mary Churchwell; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

At noon Saturday, September 18, 2021, a funeral service will be held at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith may be viewed beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until the hour of her service in the funeral home.  Facial coverings are required for all services.
