Marva Velma (Carter) Dabney

On Sunday, October 27, 2024, God dispatched his angels to the Heights at Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, to bring home our beloved Marva Velma Dabney.  She was born on March 17, 1939, to the late George and Gussie Eva Carter.  

She joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Croaker, VA, at an early age.  She was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, attending Bruton Heights School.  Upon relocating to Richmond, VA, she joined the Cedar Street Baptist Church.  At the age of 19, she married Richard Dabney.   She was employed as an inspector for General Electric.  After the company closed down she worked for Whitehall Robbins until her retirement.

Marva was a hard worker. She loved church and serving in the Usher ministry. She enjoyed going on family trips and partaking in family dinners. She loved to cook, bake cakes, and entertain family.  She enjoyed spending holidays with family and friends in Williamsburg, VA.  She also enjoyed sightseeing and long drives with her family.  

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Dabney; son Ross Oneal Carter; and brothers, Ronnie E. Carter, Robert Lynn Carter, and Don Carter.   She leaves to cherish her fond memories her bonus children, Robin Johnson (Terrence) and Rosalind Carter; stepson Archer Dabney (Sala); stepdaughter Jackie Bacus;  four grandsons and a granddaughter; sisters, Lois Jones, Jaquelin Marrow, (Rev. George), and Theresa Piggott; aunt Hazel Pierce; brother Staff Sgt. Louis Carter (Tywanna); nephews, Paul Jordan, Louis Carter Jr., and Roderick Carter (Brooke); caregivers, Mrs. Maryvielle, Mrs. Mia, and Tammy Pam Saxby; special friend Maurice Tabb; and host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Cedar Street Baptist Church, Richmond.  Interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Mrs. Dabney may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Monday in the funeral home.
