Mary Cecelia (Ratcliffe) Johnson

Every so often we are privileged to witness the beautiful sight of a shooting star. Cecelia was one of those phenomena. 

Mary Cecelia Ratcliffe Johnson was born on April 14, 1932, to the late Clinton and Luberia Ratcliffe. On Friday, July 5, 2024, the Lord sent His angels to bring Cecelia home for eternal rest with Him. 

Cecelia was a lifelong resident of Williamsburg, Va. Throughout her career she was employed with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.  

In early 1970, she heard the unaltered Gospel of Jesus Christ by Elder Peter Smith. She accepted that life-changing truth and consecrated her life to Christ. She was baptized by Elder Willie Edwards at the Gospel Spreading Church in Newport News, Va. When she was no longer able to drive the distance, she began attending the family church, Oak Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Steven Keller. 

Cecelia was always wise beyond her years. She was a problem solver, a sage advisor, and a fervent prayer warrior who had a compassionate heart. She was a “best friend” and confidante to many.  She will be truly missed. 

Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Lewis H. Johnson Sr.; son Lewis H. Johnson Jr.; grandson Marlon Johnson; and nephew Wayne Davis. 

She leaves to cherish fond memories, her son George Johnson; daughter Perquida Osborne (Samuel); granddaughter Gabrielle Cotman (Brian); grandsons, Corey Johnson, Ian Osborne, and Joshua Osborne; great-grandson Lhordn Hyman; sister Shirley Wallace (Lloyd); nieces, Judith Naman and Tracey Cropper; nephews, Nelson Cropper Jr. (Angie) and Walter Davis; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. 

A funeral service to celebrate her beautiful life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, in Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson may be viewed on Friday in the chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
