On Friday, October 25, 2024, our beloved Mary Elizabeth Jones slipped away into the arms of Jesus and entered into eternal rest in Walter Reed Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester, Virginia. Her life began on December 10, 1940, to the late Bernice James and Wilbur Jones, of York County, Virginia.
At an early age, she devoted her life to Christ and became a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA. Mary was educated at the James Weldon Johnson School. She started her career at Eastern State Hospital, retiring after forty years. She also worked part-time for the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System.
Mary met the love of her life Lee Odell Jones Sr. and on February 14, 1958, they were united in holy matrimony. They enjoyed fifty-nine years of marital bliss before he entered into eternal life on December 19, 2017.
Mary was very dependable and would help her family in any way possible. She was also a kind and loving mother. She will be greatly missed, but we know in our hearts that she is now at peace. We look forward to the day when we will meet her again in the “Great Beyond.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Odell Jones Sr; two sons, Donald Ray Jones and Paul Jones; and three brothers, David Earl Jones, Charles Jones, and Willie Jones.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving and precious memories her children, Karen Renaye Hundley, Joyce Odell Newby (Clarence Sr.), Kenneth Ronell Jones (Alicia), and Lee Odell Jones Jr.; thirty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at noon on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones may be viewed on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church.
