On May 2, 2020, God called our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Mary Lucy Jefferson Stukes, home to Eternal Rest. She was born on July 23, 1943, the third of seven children born to the union of the late Joseph and Ida Jefferson, of Charles City, Virginia.
At an early age, Mary accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Charles City, Virginia.
On February 13, 1971, Mary united in Holy Matrimony to John Clifton Stukes. The marriage was blessed with thirty-seven years of love; until his passing in July of 2008.
Mary graduated from Ruthville High School, Charles City, Virginia and retired from the College of William & Mary, with more than thirty years of dedicated service.
Mary was an avid gardener. She loved planting flowers, bird watching, and restoring antique furniture. She loved to call her family and friends and tell them what to cook, so she could come and fellowship and eat with them. Her devotion to family and her firm belief in God supported her as her health began to decline and God ultimately gave her peace.
Her loving memories will forever remain with her loving and devoted daughter, Ohaion Jefferson Allen; grandchildren, Tequila Crump, Jovan Allen, and Joszef Allen; great-grandchildren, Vincent Crump Jr., Chloe Crump, Mars Allen, and Zen Allen; six devoted sisters, Lue Spruell (Charles), Iris Wright (James), Shirley Stokes (Irby), Eugenia Lemon, Emma Lewis (Phillip) and Edna Bates (Randolph); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2020, in Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Due to the current pandemic, all attendees must remain in their vehicles.
