On Sunday, January 28, 2024, God in His Almighty powers sent one of His Angels on a special mission. The mission was to bring home for “Eternal Rest”, our beloved Mary Helen Tucker. “Helen”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends was born on July 22, 1938, to the late Mary Lucy Tyler of Toano, Virginia.
At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Personal Savior and joined Chickahominy Baptist Church in Toano, Virginia. Later in life, she joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia where she served as a missionary, a member of the Pastor’s Aide, and on the hospitality committee. She was a faithful member until her health began to decline.
Helen was united in Holy Matrimony to William Tucker. Unto this union, they were blessed with three loving children.
She worked for Dr. Blayton and Dr. Scott of Williamsburg, Virginia for numerous years. She later went to work at Eastern State Hospital as a nursing assistant and retired after serving 28 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, she volunteered at FISH Inc., an all-volunteer non-profit agency.
Helen was a jovial person and such a delight to be around. She was a loving, generous, kind, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but we find comfort in knowing she is now resting in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Her hobbies and favorite television shows included going shopping, spending money, sewing, creating garments from patterns, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching westerns, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Dateline.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris O’Reda Tucker; sisters, Dorothy Lee Sheird and Lillian Bowman; grandson, Maurice O’Brien Tucker; and grandmother, Rosa Tyler.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her devoted husband, William Tucker Sr.; son, William “Billy” Tucker Jr. (Kathy); daughter, Karen Tucker-Alexander (Harry); grandson, Harry Tucker, granddaughter, Kierra Tucker; Bryon Ashlock whom she loved like a grandson; sister, Cheryl White; aunts, Myrtle Chapman (James) and Elizabeth Tyler; uncle, Charles Tyler; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Tucker may be viewed in the church on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
