On Friday, August 16, 2024, our beloved Mary "Aunt Mae" Wallace went home to be with the Lord. She was born on November 14, 1931, to the late Simon and Lucy Morning in York County, VA.
Mary retired from the College of William & Mary after a long time of employment in the housekeeping department.
She enjoyed listening to gospel music on the radio, cooking, and baking. She believed in keeping the family history and was a huge supporter of President Obama, keeping many articles and pictures of him. She was happy to participate in the ringing of the Let freedom Ring bell at the historic First Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. "Puddin" Wallace; daughter Alice "Toppy" Wallace; brother Simon Morning Jr.; sister Emma Lee Ashby; and granddaughters, Sheri Warren and Wynona Williams.
Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories her brother Douglas Morning; grandchildren, Antonio Washington and Zandra Smith; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Wallace may be viewed in the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
