Our beloved Mary Olivia Carroll Wormley entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 29, 2023, after a tenacious battle with illness. She “fought the good fight and finished the race” and is now at peace with her Master. She was born on March 23, 1949, to the late Clarence Sr. and Mary E. Tynes Carroll.
She accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated her life to Christ years later. She attended Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia. Mary Olivia was a dedicated employee of Williamsburg Community Hospital for over twenty years and the College of William and Mary for over ten years and served both faithfully until retirement.
Mary was a kind, giving, and caring person. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her smile, fun, and loving spirit, giving it to you straight (even if you were not ready to hear it), and cooking delicious meals every Sunday. She loved her family and friends dearly and drew her courage and strength from their love during her illness. The sorrow that her children and loved ones feel cannot be expressed in words, but comfort is found in knowing that she is now at peace and resting in the Master’s arms.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis D. Wormley; brother, Clarence Jr., Thomas Lee, and foster brother, Larry Bartlett; and sisters, Arlene Caroll and Sarah Carroll.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her son, Steven Ray Washington; daughters, Yolanda Washington and Crissy Coles (Brandon); seven grandchildren, Sheka Saunders, Brittany Jones, Donte' Coles, Davonda Black, Chrishaun Coles, Brandon Coles Jr., Jasmine Coles, Steven Washington Jr., and Chloe Gowan; nine great-grandchildren; aunt-in-law, Eunice Tynes; loving big sister, Cordelia Chandler; foster brother, Harry Bartlett (Donna); special niece, Melanie Green; special caregiver, Iris Pittman; four besties, Beverly, Carrie, Wilhemenia and Shirley; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, any acts of kindness and donations are welcomed. All cards and donations may be brought to the family home or mailed to 145 Carriage Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188.
