On Friday, April 7, 2023, Matthew B. Sanders stepped behind the sunset to face the dawning of a new eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where there will be no more pain and suffering. He was born on July 21, 1952, in Sumter, South Carolina, to the late Rosa Mae Sanders and Joseph Linton.
He was educated in the South Carolina and New Jersey public school systems. He later enlisted in the United States Marines.
“Bobby,” as he was affectionately called, will be remembered as a kindhearted, very outspoken, and a people’s person. He enjoyed painting more than anything in this world. The mark that Bobby has left on us all shall always remain in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Ethel Damon Catten; and grandfathers, Gussy (Son) Sanders and Cozy Catten.
He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Latanya Smith (Terry), Alta Pryor (Troy), and Tawanda Simms; two sons, Matthew Sanders Jr. and Alan Simpson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special sister, Janie Washington; brothers, Michael Sanders and Offie Sanders; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Sanders may be viewed on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Facial coverings are required for all services.
