Mattie Mae (Crowder) White

Our mother earned her angel wings on December 28, 2024, as she peacefully departed to reunite with our Heavenly Father and family members who had passed on. Mattie Mae was the daughter of Eva Jane Massey Crowder and Philemon Crowder.

Mattie Mae White (Crowder) is survived by her devoted husband, Edgar D. White, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage, as well as six daughters, and two sons, as follows: Sandy Penny (Lorenzo) of Williamsburg, Tyrone White (Gracie ) of Williamsburg, Sharon White of Newport News, Regina King of Williamsburg, Donna Branch ( Nathan) of Newport News, Roxanne White Williams (Darrell) of Maryland, Edgar White III (Cindy) of Williamsburg, and Edna Bishop (Alvin) of Arkansas; four sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law; her legacy lives on through her eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Crowder Finch of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Rev. Gloria McCorkle of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Ronald Crowder of Indian Trail, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a dedicated member of Colossian Baptist Church in Newport News, VA, where she attended for 35 years and served as the secretary of the Greeters Ministry. She greeted everyone with a smile, making every guest feel welcome.

We will cherish and honor the legacy she created as we joyfully celebrate the life she lived and the memories she left for us to carry on. 

A memorial celebration of Mattie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. January 4,2025, at Colossian Baptist Church.
