Michael H. Hope

Michael H. Hope transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, after a valiant battle with dementia.  He was born on March 15, 1949, to the union of the late Henry and Hyacinth Hope in Guyana, South America.  He had the great advantage in his boyhood of being raised in a home where the Lord was feared and worshipped.

Michael moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he continued his education in his teen years.  He lived with his loving Aunt Madrid, who was like a mother to him, and Uncle Percy, who was like a father to him.  While living in New York he married and was blessed to be the father of Michael Hope and the late Christopher Hope.  After moving to Virginia he met the former Joan Harrold.  On September 20, 1986, they were united in holy matrimony.  This union blessed Michael with two more sons, DeWayne and Michael.

Michael loved the Lord and his church.  He was a deacon at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.  Michael will be missed and never forgotten.  We find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Michael is also preceded in death by his brother, Sherwin Hope.  His memory will forever live on in the lives of his wife of thirty-five years, Joan; sons, Michael Hope Jr., DeWayne Harrold, and Michael Druitt (Sandra); five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Ardis Miller of Brooklyn, NY, Erin Frank of New Orleans, LA, and Arlene Hope of Baltimore, MD; brother, Nigel Hope of Brooklyn, NY; mother-in-law, Dorothy Harrold; brother-in-law, Lloyd Harrold (Phyllis); and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Mr. Hope may be viewed on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.  Facial coverings are required for all services.
