Mr. Norman Leon “Boodie” Blow, Sr., peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 4, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born on August 12, 1937, in Yorktown, Virginia, he was the beloved son of the late Eddie and Edith Blow. Guided by the love and faith of his parents, Boodie accepted Christ at an early age at Grafton Baptist Church in Yorktown, Virginia, and later served faithfully as a senior usher.
He received his education at the Yorktown Training School, where he earned his diploma. Throughout his life, Boodie worked diligently and faithfully. He began his career with Brandt and Sons as a truck driver before joining York County Public School Division, where he served as Head Custodian and later as a school bus assistant until his retirement.
A gifted athlete and true sportsman, Boodie developed his passion for baseball early in life. He played semi-professional baseball as a skilled first baseman for the York Stars Baseball Club of Yorktown, Virginia. In later years, he continued to share his love for the game by joining the York Stars Old Timers Club, which provided fellowship and community gatherings that he treasured deeply.
Boodie was also a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins, now known as the Washington Commanders. Each football season, he faithfully cheered for his team, always hopeful for a dominant run and a Super Bowl victory.
On December 7, 1957, Boodie married the love of his life, Josephine Olivia “Cheetah” Copeland. Together, they built a strong and loving family, blessed with five children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Edith Blow; his sisters, Thelma Blow, Carolyn Redding, and Naomi Howard; his brothers, Harvey Blow and Eddie “Jimmy” Blow; his daughter, Rosalyn Blow; and his grandson, Brandon Pratt.
Cherishing his memory and celebrating his legacy are his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Josephine “Cheetah” Blow; four children, Cheryl Pope (Sly), Norman L. Blow, Jr., Natalie Blow, and Gary Blow; grandchildren, Sean Blow, Ashton Pope, Jordan Pope, and Alexandra Pope; great-grandchildren, Amiyah Davis, Ezra Pope, Raelyn Pope, and Everly Spivey; sisters, Shirley Combs, Marianette Pearson, and Gloria Nickelson (Brad); brother, Donald Blow; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Blow, Shirley Blow, Harlean Owens (Luke), Constance Pool, Shirey White (Jene), Dale McLendon, and Julia Copeland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Boodie will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for sports, his loyal friendship, and his steadfast faith. His legacy will live on through all who were blessed to know and love him.
A service to celebrate Norman's life will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
