On Sunday morning, March 22, 2020, our much-loved Orrin Irving Shepperd Sr. slipped quietly to his beautiful resting place. His brother Fred Douglas Shepperd “Fat Daddy” who was called to glory, on this same date twenty-six years ago. He was born on April 2, 1941, to the late Floyd S. and John Shepperd Sr., in Chickahominy, VA.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Personal Savior. He started his military career on September 1, 1964. While in the military, he received many accolades and commendations. He retired from the U.S. Army on March 31, 1985, with more than 21 years of service.
His love of cooking took him on his next adventure where he attended the Baltimore International College School of Culinary Arts where he received an Associate of Applied Science degree.
“Shepperd”, as many of us affectionately called him, loved sports; especially football and golf. His favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles and favorite golfer was Tiger Woods. He spent his free time watching westerns, cooking, playing chuzzle and making people laugh. Orrin will be remembered as a generous soul always there to help relatives and friends with whatever they needed him for.
He leaves to cherish many fond memories and to celebrate his life with his loving wife, Norma E. Shepperd; daughters Camie Whidden (Clint) of Seattle, WA and Wendy Jaborah Shepperd of Ocala, FL; son, Orrin Shepperd Jr.; stepson, Monte Webster (Christy); four grandchildren, Makaly, Orrin III, Cortez, and Aleshia; two sisters, Julia Mcclester of Hinesville, GA, and Patricia Brown, of Hampton, VA; two brothers-in-law, Edward Roberts of Clarksville, Tenn and Elmer M.
