The world lost a bright light when Patricia Ann Louis, age 68, completed her journey on March 7, 2026, in the care of her supportive and loving family. Friends will remember her vibrant spirit, infectious smile, and soft-spoken words of wisdom.
Patricia was born on May 31, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Charles and Martiel Davis. Patricia received her Certificate of Baptism from Presentation of Our Lady of Victory, in Detroit, Michigan, on March 14, 1965. She received first communion and would later complete her confirmation and receive the saint’s name Angelique Bernadette.
She graduated from Immaculate High School on June 6, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. Patricia’s professional career began at Harper Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, as a medical technologist performing analytical laboratory testing.
Following her marriage to Elbert Louis, United States Navy sailor and future pastor, in 1978, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia, in 1980. Patricia was a natural trailblazer. While a medical technologist, she worked several years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Hampton, Virginia. She would later work as a health educator for pediatric research, where she managed child health coalitions in Norfolk, Virginia. She worked as a program manager for both Navy Family Services and the Planning Council in Norfolk. She was a health educator for Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, where she managed childhood injury prevention programs. She worked with HumanKind Residential Treatment Center in Zuni, Virginia, assisting adults with disabilities.
She served alongside her husband, Elbert, for ten years as the First Lady of Mission of Deliverance Temple, Church of God in Christ. Simultaneously, she and Elbert owned and operated Sterling Brook Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Windsor, Virginia.
Patricia worked in public health for more than forty years. She held a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, a master’s degree in urban affairs from Norfolk State University (with eighteen postgraduate hours in community and clinical psychology) in Norfolk, and an applied science degree in mortuary science from John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia.
Patricia spent her spare time reading and journal writing, documenting her reflections and ideas to uplift and encourage personal growth. She considered self-improvement essential for living a fulfilling and purposeful life, sharing ideas to support others on their journeys.
She found her greatest joy in tending her garden, a passion that reflected her nurturing approach to all relationships. Her forty-seven-year marriage to Elbert was characterized by deep love, friendship, mutual respect, and countless adventures. She enjoyed traveling, hiking trails in national parks, biking, kayaking, and meditative walks.
Patricia was known for her profound humility, obedience, and endurance of suffering, offering herself as a powerful role model of faith and courage. She will be remembered for her unique style and masterful way with words. She was a conversant and insightful administrator who meticulously worked to improve the quality, proficiency, and advancement of the many lives she touched. She adopted sons and daughters at home and across many states. She came to be known as Mommy Dearest, Mom-ma Pat, Sister Louis, and Lady Louis. Her husband affectionately referred to her as Honey, and in return, she called him Honey-Bunny. Patricia was actively involved in putting the finishing touches on her newly published book, Golden Nuggets: Words of Encouragement and Inspiration. She was busy creating recipes for her future cookbook, as well as reviewing her many journals for the book she entitled Letters to My Children. She remained the secretary and a board member for the Joyce Kramer Ministries. Patricia met many life lessons with the attitude, “Get on with it, you are not doing enough.”
With a passion for cooking, Patricia became a plant-based chef. She shared her love for cooking with the Healthy Living Center, founded by doctors James E. and Olivia M. J. Newby. She taught cooking classes to encourage lifestyle changes and better choices in food preparation. Patricia believed that most food can be made vegan and used her husband’s palate in her test kitchen. She was a remarkable, phenomenal, and talented woman, strong and resilient. Her family was most important to her. She loved life and lived it well. Her enduring legacy will never be forgotten, and she will be sorely missed. Her earthly journey has ended, and a new spiritual life has begun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martiel Davis, and her grandchild Elijah N. Louis. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of forty-seven years, Elbert Louis, Sr.; two devoted children, Elbert II and Melody Ryan, and a bonus son Jerome Tanner; two grandchildren, Elysianna N. Louis and Ryan Emmanuel Louis, and a bonus grandchild Trae Stanley; one loving sister Brenda Davis; two half-sisters Stephanie Davis-White and Nicole Davis-Smith, both of Houston, Texas; two brothers-in-love, Joseph (Donna) Lee Louis of Loganville, Georgia, and David (Tom) Louis of Chino, California; three additional sisters-in-love, Gwendolyn Louis of Detroit, Michigan, Shirley Ann Louis of Oakland, California, and Sophia Louis of Oak Park, Michigan; and a host of nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Tribute and Legacy Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Garden of Prayer Temple - Zion City.
