Pattie Brooks Obituary

Pattie Neomi Mayo Taliaferro Brooks, lovingly known as Honey, Mom, Pattie, Sis, and Granny, was born on January 4, 1933.  The youngest child of Deacon Robert and Deaconess Emma Mayo in Warrenton, Warren County, NC, was granted her heavenly reward on January 3, 2021.

At a young age, after moving to Newport News, Pattie accepted Christ as her Personal Savior and joined Beech Grove Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor James Farmer.  In 1975, she became a Deaconess under Pastor James Lawson.  She was active in the Senior Choir Ministry, Prayer Band, Pastor Aide, Building Fund Committee, Sunday School, and Bible Study.  She was recognized for her work in the church with several certificates and plaques.

She was educated in North Carolina and Newport News, graduating from George Washington Carver, in 1950.  In 1951, she was joined in marriage to the late Horace Taliaferro Sr.  Unto this union, Horace, Jr. was born.  In 1960, she was united in Holy Matrimony to William F. Brooks.  This union was blessed with three children, Wentrell Kevin, Kim Evette, and Carmen Michelle.

She worked for several restaurants before she started her career with AAFES, Fort Eustis, Virginia.  During her tenure, she received many certificates and plaques for distinguished service.  In 1993, she retired as a Supervisor.

She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.  She leaves to cherish loving memories, her husband, William Brooks; four children, Horace Wilson of Hampton, VA, Wentrell Kevin (Yvonne) of San Francisco, CA, Kim Evette of Newport News, VA, and  Carmen Michelle of Woodbridge, VA;  three grandsons, Derrick Jason (Natalie) of Bowie, MD, Carrien Adjuan of Newport News, VA, and Isaiah Franklin of Woodbridge, VA; a granddaughter, Courtney Symone’ of Newport News, VA; seven great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Joseph Brooks (Beatrice) of Sterling, VA; sister-in-law, Natalie Davis of Norwalk, CT; goddaughter and niece, Anita Madhi of Boyeton Beach, FL; two god-granddaughters, Aisha Cooley and Amelia Parker, both of Newport News, VA; numerous nephews and nieces and other loving relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Chapel in Williamsburg, VA.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2020, at New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Newport News, VA.  Strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines will be required.  Facebook Livestream will be available at the start of this service.  Interment to follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton, VA.
