Pauline Eloise Givens Washington

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 1:05 pm, God called his devoted servant, Pauline Eloise Givens Washington, home for eternal rest at the Hospice House of Williamsburg, Virginia. Pauline was born on May 12, 1933, the second oldest child of the late Howard Wilson Givens and Virginia Olivette Walker Givens.

At an early age, Pauline confessed Christ as her savior and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Croaker, Virginia, where she remained a faithful member.  She had a beautiful soprano voice and loved singing hymns in the senior choir.  She would “demand” that the hymns be sung correctly.

Pauline graduated from Bruton Heights High School, Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1951. She furthered her education and attended St. Leo's College, where she majored in Business. Pauline worked in civil service at Fort Eustis and the Naval Weapons Station for many years before retiring in 1988. She also served as a Notary Public.

On June 27, 1954, Pauline married Joshua Louis Washington of Charles City, Virginia. This union was blessed for sixty-nine years of marital bliss until his passing on November 26, 2023.

Pauline will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Pauline leaves to cherish her memories, one godchild Cynthia Givens Sears; four sisters, Alice G. Roberts (John), Betty Dumangane, Agnes Harris, and Shirley Yost; brother David A. Givens  Sr. (Sylvia); brother-in-law Rev. Dr. Alton Washington (Kathleen); two sisters-in-law, Zelda E. Givens and Barbara Givens; and a host of nieces, nephews, other caring relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamsburg.  Interment to follow in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Washington may be viewed on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
