Percy "Ike" Anderson was peacefully called to eternal rest on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical, Williamsburg, VA. On February 25, 1936, Percy was the second of four children born to the late Adelaide and Fred Anderson, Sr., in Scottsville, VA.
At an early age, he moved with his family to Williamsburg and attended Bruton Heights School, graduating in 1955. It was there that he met the love of his life, Antoinette Buie, whom he married on November 30, 1957. They had three children, Percy Vance, Craig, and Vicki, all born and reared in Jersey City, NJ. The Andersons later moved to Mitchellville, MD, residing there for ten years before returning to Williamsburg in 1998.
At an early age, Percy was baptized at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Williamsburg. While living in Maryland, he was a member of Kettering Baptist Church. Upon his return to Williamsburg, he joined St. John Baptist Church. When his health declined, he enjoyed watching the services virtually.
Percy was employed as a forklift operator and warehouseman by Port Jersey, Ciba Geigy, and Lockheed Aeronautics. He was last employed by A&P Coffee Company in Landover, MD.
Often called a “gentle giant,” Percy was a compassionate listener, non-judgmental, and always kind. He loved sports, watching the news and westerns, Motown music, and a good game of checkers (which he always won). His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Fred, Phillip, and Hattie. His memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 66 years, Antoinette; children, Percy Vance, Craig, and Vicki; grandchildren, Starr, Glen, Eric (Rob), Sarah (Sarahbeth), and Laura (Tim); eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jacquelyn Wright, Doris Anderson, and Almarine Anderson; brother-in-law Bob Graham; foster brother Roosevelt Taylor; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service to celebrate Percy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. John Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Anderson may be viewed from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of his service in the church.
