On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Phillip Earl Lomax peacefully departed this life and entered the gates of heaven. Earl, 81 years proud, was raised in Lee Hall, Virginia by the late Elsie Lomax Brown and grandfather, Phillip Lomax, Jr. “Big Daddy”.
He was a member of Carver High School's Class of 1958 and spent two academic years at Norfolk State University. In 1962, Earl began his long career at the NCO Club on the Fort Eustis Army Base in Newport News, VA, and retired decades later as the club's manager.
It was his bright eyes and perpetual smile that drew many to him. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed the simple things in life. Watching sports and shooting pool with the guys were his favorite pastimes. When in his company, you were given food, laughter, and years of endless wisdom. He made sure there was sunshine in every day.
To cherish his memory, Earl leaves his beloved son, Phillip E. Lomax II and daughter-in-law, Carla; siblings, Marilyn B. Ford, Michael J. Brown (Patricia), Melanie H. Brown, and James and Clyde Burke; grandchildren, Jordan and Brandon Lomax; nieces, Jacqueline N. Richardson (Gordon, Gordon Jr., and Brianna), Nicole Montague (Marlon, Marlon Jr., and Julian); nephew, Michael J. Brown Jr.; and a host of caring friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Facial coverings are required. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.
