Rae Marrow Foster entered into eternal rest on November 16, 2023. She was born to the late Plato and Virginia Harris Marrow on May 2, 1940, in Charles City, VA.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Charles City, VA where she remained a member until her demise. Rae was a dedicated member serving in many capacities over the years including as a member of the Trustee Board, Cemetery committee, and in the Senior Choir. Rae enjoyed participating in church activities at Jerusalem Baptist Church as well as her husband’s church home, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
Rae was educated in the Charles City County Public Schools and graduated from Ruthville High School in 1958. She later became a Licensed Practical Nurse, retiring from Eastern State Hospital with over thirty years of service. Although she was known as Rae by most, at home she was simply Mama or Nana. Rae also enjoyed spending time with family and friends including many from the Brookhaven community where she resided for over fifty years.
Rae met John Herbert Foster in 1955 and on February 20, 1960, they were united in holy matrimony. Their union was blessed with three children.
She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-nine years; brother, Plato Marrow, Jr.; and sisters, Charlotte Trower, Mary Cooke, Elizabeth Elliott, and Alice Cropper.
Fond memories of Rae will be cherished by her children, Rayette (Rodney), John Jr. (Vanessa), and Marcus (Shonda); eight grandchildren, Brandy, Bryanna (Justin), John III, Nia, Alexis, Maxwell, Madeline, and Andreo; six great-grandchildren, Devin, Justin, Jayden, Alana, Makenzie, and Loren; two sisters, Gladys Armstead and Jacqueline Wallace; brother, Rev. George Marrow (Jackie); brothers-in-law, Clyde Foster (Caroline) and Johnnie Elijah Foster (Cynthia); sister-in-law, Gloria Easter; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Foster may be viewed in the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
