Robert Gresham Obituary

Robert Horace Gresham, son of the late James Albert Gresham Sr. and Lillian Banks Gardner, was born on October 30, 1947, in Williamsburg, Virginia. He attended the public schools of New Kent County and was a graduate of George W. Watkins High School. He was united in holy matrimony to Cynthia Bernistine Lawrence on January 27, 1968.

Robert was a devoted father and husband, an active member of New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Newport News, VA and St. Luke Baptist Church, West Point, VA. He was also a retired member of the United States Postal Service where he worked for 44 years as a postal carrier. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar, performing with his mother and brothers as a member of The Gresham Brothers singing group, coaching his sons’ sports teams, and watching Wheel of Fortune with his great-niece. He also enjoyed traveling, playing baseball for the York Stars and softball for New Beech Grove when he was younger. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many and his influence will remain in the lives of us all.

He quietly departed this life on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at his home in Newport News, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gregory and Reginald Gresham.

His memory will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife, Cynthia Gresham of Newport News, VA; children, Troy Gresham of Newport News, VA and Stacie Gresham (Sara) of York County, VA; great-niece, Kayla Lawrence of Newport News, VA; grandsons, Dante Richards and Darius Richards, both of Richmond, VA, and Xavier Gresham and Zander Gresham, both of Suffolk, VA; sister, Gloria Gresham Mills of Plum Point, VA; brothers, Rev.
