Robert Lee Hardy Jr, 75, was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
Robert was born October 22, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Robert Lee Sr and Etta Louise Hardy. Robert Jr. was one of nine children. He attended Maggie L. Walker H.S. in Richmond, VA, before he enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 24, 1966. Robert Jr.’s service with the Air Force took him and his family to Idaho, Michigan, Ohio, California, Florida, Germany and finally to Yorktown, VA, in 1987, which was to be his last residence.
Robert Jr. married the late Elois Braxton on June 21, 1968, and they remained happily together for nearly 42 years until she was called to her eternal rest on April 13, 2010. During their marriage, Robert and Elois were blessed with two children, Terresita and Robert III.
On July 9, 2011, Robert married Bridget King, who brought into his life two stepsons, Kenton and Kevelin Sears, and his mother-in-law, Mildred Boone.
When he retired from the Air Force after 26 selfless years of service to his country, Robert continued to work, operating his own janitorial company before finishing his career employed with Newport News Public Health in January 2023.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Hardy Sr, mother, Etta Louise Hardy, wife, Elois Hardy, and brother, Reginald Hardy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bridget Hardy of Portsmouth, VA; daughter Terresita (Juan) Gayden of Germantown, MD; son Robert (Nichele) Hardy III of Suffolk, VA; stepsons Kenton and Kevelin Sears; grandchildren Antonette (Erin) Alston, Anthony Alston Jr, Juan Gayden Jr, Elijah Gayden, Robert Hardy IV, and Sequoia Scales; great-grandson, Ronan Alston; sisters Janice Anderson, Joyce Anderson, Rosilyn (Michael) Jones, and Robinette (Jerry) Jerman, all of Richmond, VA, and Catherine Clay of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers Willie (Darlene) Hardy and Curtis (Freda) Hardy, both of Richmond, VA; sister-In-law Darlene Hardy; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and many friends and acquaintances he made throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, at Cary’s Baptist Church. Entombment with full military honors to follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hardy may be viewing on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service. A repast will be at Cary’s Baptist Church immediately following the entombment.
