Robert Linwood Hawkins

Robert Linwood Hawkins was born on March 11, 1944, the son of Ernest Hawkins and Nancy Hawkins, in York County, Virginia.  His earthly journey transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Robert worked for many years as a landscaper and in the construction department for the City of Williamsburg.

Robert loved fishing, going to the casino, and just being a jokester.  He was especially talented at playing the guitar.  He loved family and his friends.  He will be greatly missed but we find comfort in knowing that he now rests in the arms of our Lord.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Hawkins and Nancy Hawkins Johnson; and siblings, Leon Hawkins, Cheyanne Hawkins, Ernest Hawkins, James Hawkins, and David Hawkins.

Robert’s memory will forever remain with his children, Jacquelyn Lavern Hawkins Carter (John), Doris Ann Hawkins Levi (Ronald), Robert Linwood Hawkins Jr. (Lisa), and Doretta Denis Hawkins; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ex-wife Dorothy Ann (Hawkins) Hill; long-time companion Lucy Byrd; sisters, Audrey Hawkins, Vinetta Hamilton, Ernestine Mangrum, Juanita Bausley, and Maxine Hawkins; special niece, Connie Taylor-Futrell; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, July 8, 2024, at St. John Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Morningstar Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mr. Hawkins may be viewed on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the church.
