Ronald "Red" Leon Burks

Ronald “Red” Leon Burks, was born on August 29, 1960, to the late Theodora “Flucy” Burks.  On January 4, 2024, Red entered into eternal rest in Yorktown, Virginia.  Red grew up in Lackey, Virginia and was educated in the York County Public School System.

Red worked as a landscaper for many years at the Naval Weapons Station.  He was also a longshoreman, painter, and an artist.

Red was a free spirit who never met a stranger.  He would speak and become instant friends with everyone.  Red never let anything bother him and if it did; it never showed. Red will be remembered mostly for his smile, laughter, storytelling, comedic humor, dancing, and forgiving heart. He would bring joy and laughter to everybody and any event. Red would always put others before himself and was always willing to help his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

To forever cherish Red’s memories are three brothers, Clarence Burks, Ray Burks (Carol), and Brett Burks (Aimee); sister, Dana Hatchett (Lorenzo); three aunts, Ophelia Burks, Shirley Gray (James), and Rochelle Burks; companion, Sandra Dover; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

A service to celebrate Red’s life will be held at Noon, on January 11, 2024, at Whiting Funeral Home.  Mr. Burks may be viewed in the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
