We know life is never measured by how many years we live,
but by the kindly things we do and the happiness we give…
Ronnie Cossell Gray answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia. His life’s journey began on June 18, 1965, son of the late Herman Henry Gray and Thelma Holmes Gray of Williamsburg, Virginia.
At an early age, “Ron,” as he was affectionately known, confessed his faith in Christ and united in fellowship with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Virginia.
Ronnie was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System graduating from Lafayette High School in 1983. He was an affluential star and a dedicated team member of the Lafayette Rams football team, where he wore the number 23 jersey.
Shortly after he graduated from High School; he obtained employment at The College of William and Mary. Ron worked many job assignments while employed there. He was a dedicated employee there for more than twenty-five years. He remained gainfully employed with William and Mary College until his health began to fail him.
Ron loved football. His favorite Pro-team was the Washington Redskins, now known as the “Washington Commanders.” He loved attending local high school football games in various communities. He immensely enjoyed watching his grandsons playing little league and middle school football. Last but certainly not least, he had a great fondness, love, and care for dogs, especially his “Pitbulls.”
On his life’s journey, he touched the lives of many. He was a devoted father and a very proud grandfather. Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Dolly A. Crews, and brother, Charles H. Gray. Ron leaves behind to cherish his precious memories, five (5) children, Devron C. Gray, Devon C. Saunders, Javon W. Edwards, Nia Gray-Smith (Thaddeus), and Kira A. Gray seven (7) grandchildren, A`Zayveon, Malia, Izaiyah, Na`Omi, Amari, Nehemiah, and Neriah; four (4) brothers, Randy Gray (Patricia), Terry Gray, Larry Gray (Tracey), and Tony Gray (Michelle); six (6) sisters, Jeannie Wallace, Thelma Amos (John), Audrey Gray, Wanda Long (Donald), Tina Henderson (Alphy) and Hope Gray; two aunts, Cora Jones and Louise Holmes; one uncle, Frank Gray; a very special friend and caregiver, Lachelle Givens; and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mr. Gray may be viewed in the church on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
