Roy J. Watkins, affectionately called "Bug," was born on December 15, 1946, to the late Gladys and Roosevelt Watkins. He received his heavenly reward on Sunday, May 26, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He left this world to join those he missed so much, his brothers, Joshua Peter Watkins, James Billy Watkins, and Gary Lee Watkins; grandson William Chapman; and sister-in-law Loretia Watkins.
Bug was educated in the Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools. He worked various jobs as a mechanic, maintenance, and construction. He had a heart of gold and a special bond with each of his nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was a giving and loving person and his greatest joy was his family and friends. He always offered his support and unconditional love.
He leaves to cherish fond memories with his sister Mary A. Watkins of Williamsburg; brothers, Ricky Watkins of Hampton, VA, Onterio Brown and Andre Brown, both of Williamsburg; daughters Connie Lee of New York, Jeanie Chapman, Yvonne Christian, and Patricia Johnson (Tori), all of Newport News, VA, Danielle Watkins, Quanita Caulk, and Jamie Clark, all of Baltimore, MD; two sons, Roy Watkins Jr. and Christopher Watkins, all of Newport News, VA; nineteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren; aunt Cora Jones of Newport News; uncle Frank Gray of Newport News, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, June 3, 2024, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment with a horse-drawn hearse procession will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Watkins may be viewed in the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service on Monday.
