Sarah Elizabeth (Wright) Belpree

With grace and peace, Sarah Elizabeth Wright Belpree transitioned to her eternal rest on Thursday, September 18, 2025. 

A lifelong resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, Sarah was born on July 11, 1927, to the late Harry B. Wright, Sr. and Elsie Bowman Wright. Her life was a shining example of purpose, passion, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of others.

Sarah devoted her life to education and community service, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students, colleagues, and families. With a heart for teaching and a gift for inspiring young minds, she spent her career in the classroom, earning widespread admiration and respect. Her exceptional contributions were honored when she was named York County’s Teacher of the Year in 1975, followed by the esteemed title of Virginia State Teacher of the Year in 1976, a testament to her excellence and the lives she touched through her work.

Beyond her career, Sarah was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her presence brought warmth, wisdom, and kindness to all who knew her. She was a woman of deep faith, gentle strength, and lifelong learning, always encouraging others to pursue their full potential.

Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved brothers: Harry B. Wright, Jr. (Ethel), William H. Wright (Lillian), James A. Wright, Jude C. Wright, and John P. Wright (QuoVadis). She leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by her brother, Samuel Wright (Brenda); her devoted daughter, Carolynn Belpree-Jackson; her treasured granddaughters, Alexandra Dennis-Belpree and Christiane Jackson; and her great-granddaughter, Camille Jackson. She is also remembered fondly by her extended family, lifelong friends, former students, and colleagues.

In honoring Sarah’s legacy, may we continue to uplift others as she did with compassion, purpose, and love.

A memorial service celebrating Sarah’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
