Sarah Pierce Butler, daughter of the late Matthew and Mable Pierce, was born on November 14, 1929, in James City County. She departed this earthly life on March 7, 2025.
At an early age, “Aunt Tie,” as she was so fondly called by her family, confessed Christ as her personal Savior and joined New Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member for eighty-five years.
Sarah was educated in the Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools, graduating from Bruton Heights. She retired from Eastern State Hospital after thirty years of service.
Sarah was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Butler Jr. and son, Charles Pierce.
Fond memories will always be cherished by her daughter Carlene Bartlett (Bruce); two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at New Zion Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Butler may be viewing on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
