Sgt. James A. Horne went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2024, peacefully at home. He was born on June 30, 1932, to the late Elizabeth and Fred Horne Sr., in Chicago, Illinois.
James enlisted in the United States Army serving in Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1973 from Fort Eustis Army Base, Virginia. Upon retiring he decided to make Williamsburg his home. He later work at Lafayette High School as the Head Custodian for twenty-one years and also was a truck driver, tour bus driver, and worked other jobs as well.
James loved to joke, entertain, sing, and preach the Word. He was a fun-loving God-fearing Christian, and he will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his brother Fred Jr.; sisters, Fredda and Gladys; daughter Joyce; grandson David "Brian" Lee; first wife Vada Horne; and second wife Iris "Faye" Horne.
His loving memories will forever remain with his children, Linda and David; grandsons, Jeremiah, Damion, Aaron, and Lenny; nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Sgt. Horne may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of his service in the chapel.
