Shakera Renee Pearson

Shakera Renee Pearson was born on November 9, 1993, and unexpectedly left this earth on February 24, 2026, at the tender age of 32.

"Kera," as she was so affectionately known, accepted Christ into her life at an early age at Grafton Baptist Church, where she sang in the youth choir.

She attended and graduated from Newport News Public Schools in 2010, and later attended Thomas Nelson Community College for two years, earning her associate's degree.

Shakera recently worked as a server at 7 Bistro, where she loved laughing and dancing with her coworkers while taking care of her guests. She had a passion for hairstyling and spent much of her time experimenting with and changing her own hair.  She had an infectious laugh and could brighten any room she entered.  Shakera will be remembered for her love of family, and her love of life will continue to shine through all who were blessed to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Johnny “Mac” Pearson, and her niece Ashanti Maliya Whitlow.

Cherishing her memory and celebrating her life are her loving mother Shawna Pearson and father Mark Jenkins; three children, Jatavion Pearson, Genesis Brooks, and Kareemah Ballinger; two siblings, Malika Peartree and Quran Gregory; maternal grandmother Marianette Pearson; nieces and nephews, S-iny Pender, A-shaun Peartree, I-joure King, and Qu-Vayah Gregory-Reynolds; aunts and uncles, Kimberly Lloyd, Lisa Caudle, Chasity Perrin, William Lloyd (Darcy), and Marcus Perrin; her great-aunts and great-uncles, Shirley Combs, Gloria Nickelson (Chester), and Donald Blow; a special aunt and uncle, Kimberly Roberts and Lonnel Roberts; and a special friend, Abel Cueto; and a host of other loving family and friends.

A service to celebrate Kera's life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Grafton Baptist Church Harris Grove, with a viewing starting one hour prior to the service.  Interment to follow in Grafton Baptist Church Harris Grove Memorial Park.
