It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Meekins, who peacefully entered eternal rest on May 29, 2025. She was born on September 17, 1960. Shirley was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend whose strength, warmth, and spirit touched all who knew her.
Shirley was a proud graduate of Lafayette High School. During the later part of her life, she joined Shalom Kingdom Community Church, where her faith remained strong and unwavering. Her life was a living testimony of service, compassion, and devotion—not only to God, but to her family.
Before her health declined, she worked faithfully at Westgate Resorts for over ten years. Beyond her work, Shirley’s greatest devotion was to her family. She selflessly dedicated much of her life to caring for her beloved mother, Marie Walker Meekins, until her passing.
Shirley was a woman of passion and joy who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. She never missed an episode of her favorite soap operas and could always be found cheering during a good wrestling match. Her strong family bond was a constant source of comfort and strength throughout her life.
Shirley Ann Meekins will be remembered for her unwavering love, her resilient spirit, and the way she made everyone feel at home in her presence. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Marie Walker Meekins, and brother-in-law Webster “Mark” Lightfoot.
She is survived by her two loving and devoted daughters, Michelle Meekins and Mokeya Meekins, who were the light of her life and held her heart completely; four cherished grandchildren, Jaslynn Meekins, Jalyanna Meekins, Shawn Meekins, and Isaiah Meekins, who will forever remember her love, laughter, and nurturing presence; father Hampton Meekins; three sisters, Joanne Christian (Christopher), Elaine Christian (Michael), and Theresa Lightfoot; two brothers Hampton Meekins (Wanda) and Donald Meekins; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, uncles, aunt, cousins and friends.
