Shirley Pryor Obituary

On Friday, June 26, 2026, God, in His infinite wisdom and perfect love, called His faithful servant, Shirley Pryor, from labor to eternal rest. Having lived a life marked by faith, love, humility, and devotion to her family, she peacefully answered her Master’s call and entered into the presence of the Lord.

Shirley was born on February 15, 1943, to the late Christine Brown. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, cherished sister, aunt, and friend whose gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

A woman of unwavering faith, Shirley was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where she joyfully served on the Usher Board for many years. She greeted worshippers with warmth, kindness, and a welcoming smile until declining health prevented her from continuing her service. Her love for God was evident in the way she lived and in the compassion she extended to others.

Shirley was also a dedicated employee of Eastern State Hospital, where she faithfully worked in the Housekeeping Department for approximately ten years. She took pride in her work and was respected for her dependability, strong work ethic, and caring nature.

Above all else, Shirley treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, celebrating life’s milestones, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Her quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering love will remain a guiding light for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Pryor Sr.; her mother, Christine Brown; and her beloved sister, Evelyn James.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children, Harold Pryor (Vern) and Brenda Pryor; her cherished grandchildren, D’Andre Pryor and Brittany Pryor; eight great-grandchildren; her devoted siblings, Wilton Brown and Estelle Brown; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and her loving First Baptist Church family.

Mrs. Shirley Pryor’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, service, and unconditional love. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to live on in every life she touched and every heart she encouraged.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
Matthew 25:23
