Shirley Julia (Richards) Walker

Shirley Julia Walker departed this life to start her heavenly journey on Saturday, February 06, 2021.  Affectionately known as “Momma”, was born on December 11, 1946, daughter of the late Mary Alice and Norton Richards Sr., of Charles City, Virginia.

At an early age, Shirley confessed Christ as her Personal Savior and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  She later joined hands in fellowship with Colossian Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her passing.

Shirley was educated in the Charles City County Public Schools, attending Ruthville High School.  

On November 23, 1968, she was joined in holy matrimony to Ronald Clinton Walker Sr.  Together, they enjoyed forty-three years of happiness until his passing on February 1, 2012.

Shirley loved cooking and doing crossword puzzles.  You could also find her enjoying a good Western on TV.  She loved her family and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them.  Her home was always open to family and friends.  Shirley loved a good conversation and was a straight shooter.  She will truly be missed, but we find peace in knowing that she now rests in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shirley was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Clinton Walker III; sisters, Princess Richards Chapman, Jeroline Mickens, Elsie Tyler, Ruth Armstead, Josephine Gray, and Elneeda Ashlock; and brothers, Joshua Richard and Norton Richards Jr.  She leaves to cherish fond memories with her children, Alyssa Boyd of Hampton, Virginia, Ronald Walker Jr. of Williamsburg, Virginia; Monica Walker (Sade), Robert Walker, and Miltonia Pressey-Richardson (Andre), all of Newport News, Virginia; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Mae Durham (Rodney) of Silver Springs, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 13, 2021, in Whiting's Funeral Home.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements.  Facebook Livestream will be available at the start of the service.  Mrs. Walker may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
