On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, our beloved Shirley Walker peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. She was born on May 14, 1948, to the late Inez and Willie Jones Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years Robert L. Walker Sr., her father Clifton Johnson Sr., and brothers, Clifton Johnson Jr. and Kenneth Johnson Sr.
Early in life, Shirley accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and was employed at Family Dollar, until her retirement.
"Shirl", as she was affectionately known, was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved watching The Young and The Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. She also enjoyed watching Westerns and Little House on the Prairie. Shirl loved to spend time with her family, long talks on the phone with her siblings, and family outings.
Shirl's memories will forever remain with her three sons, Lamont Jones Sr., Robert Walker Jr. (Renalda), and Derick Walker Sr. (Daphne); grandchildren, Brittany Boyd, Montesha Boyd, Derrick Greenhow, Destinee Walker, Derick Walker Jr., Lamont Jones Jr., Lamond Jones, Desia Walker, Daniel Walker, D’Shela Walker, and Zayden Jones; great-grandchildren, E’Niyah Ruttley, JaMirah Graves, Jarrell Graves Jr., and Ja’lani Dobson; five sisters, Belinda Pretlow (James), Joanne Johnson, Donna Fogg (Howard), Vanessa Guillory (Walton), and Fay Townes; three brothers, Dean Johnson (Lisa), William Lively (Verdona), and Michael Jones; two sisters-in-law, Marie Meekins and Elizabeth Hawkins; a special nephew, Charles Holiday Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Walker may be viewed on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the funeral home.
