Stephanie Short Obituary

Stephanie Pearl Short passed away the morning of April 28, 2024, at the home of her mother, Vivian Short, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Stephanie was born in South Hill, Virginia on April 25, 1963, to Vivian Miller Short and the late James T. Short Jr. Her childhood was spent in Suffolk, Newport News, and later in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she was a graduate of Lafayette High School. While in high school, Stephanie studied Spanish, receiving an award for Excellence in Language Study. She continued her education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville where she earned a degree in International Relations. Stephanie later studied Real Estate, taking courses at Virginia Tech. Her love of language, culture, and real estate set her career path.

In her early career, Stephanie was recognized among the “Top 40 Under 40 in Hampton Roads”. She has the designation of a certified commercial investment member, served the office of president, and held other office positions. She was a member of the first United States real estate delegation to visit Cuba to meet government and business leaders. She also served as chair of the United Nations Week in Virginia. After working with several commercial real estate companies, Stephanie established her own business, Short Commercial Acquisitions, traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

As a resident of Norfolk, Stephanie always served in her community. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, a member of the Moles, a board member of Bon Secours, a board member of Truist Bank, a member of the Norfolk Arts Commission, and a member of the Knights Templar.

Along with her commitment to her community, Stephanie will be remembered for her warm personality, boundless energy, and love for her family and friends.

Stephanie is preceded in death by her father, James Thomas Short Jr.  She is survived by her mother, Vivian Miller Short; aunt, Jacquelyn B. Miller; and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Stephanie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Grace Episcopal Church, 1400 E Brambleton Ave, Norfolk, VA 23504.
