Steven Lowell Williams

Steven Williams passed away on January 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and guidance. The beloved child of the late Thurman Williams and Alice Williams (née Hughes). He was also predeceased by his brother Michael Williams. Steven is survived by his son Julien; life partner LaJuanda “Wendy”; and siblings, Larry Mcgee (Gwyn), Alice "Penny" Mayfield-Mann, Sharon Dorsey (Anthony), Thurman Williams, Vivian O'Connell (Thomas), Kimberly "Kim" Williams-Floyd (Michael), and Adrienne Williams-Johnson.

Steve graduated from York High School and attended Chowan College as a student-athlete. A devoted professional, he excelled as a supervisor for DECA in his last role, earning the respect of his peers and mentoring new team members with patience and wisdom. He also was a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church, Lackey, Va. 

Beyond his career, Steve was cherished for his sharp wit, well-timed jokes, and the ability to guide others with his intellect and insight. Known as the “master of the grill,” he took great joy in sharing his culinary creations and delighting in the happiness of others. His radiant smile, keen perspective on current events, and gentle nudges to help people find the right path made him an unforgettable presence in the lives of many.

Outside of family and work, Steve embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved traveling with Wendy across the country, reading voraciously, and helping those in need of personal or spiritual guidance. His vast knowledge, quick wit, and uncanny ability to solve riddles or outperform any contestant on Jeopardy! earned him admiration and affection from all who knew him.

Many people he loved are awaiting him in the beyond. Many who love him will mourn him here. Steve will be dearly missed by all who knew him and remembered for his positive outlook, warm hugs, and boundless love for life.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Steven's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church.  Mr. Williams may be viewed in the church on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
