Stevenson L. Bailey

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all of them that love His appearing – II Timothy 4:7-8

Mr. Stevenson L. Bailey, affectionately known as "Stevie," a native of Surry County, Virginia, was born on May 27, 1947, to the late James Obie and Ada Sutton Bailey. He departed this earthly life on August 7, 2025.

Stevenson was educated in the Surry County Public Schools.  He was employed with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, retiring after thirty-five years of dedicated service.  After returning to Surry County from Williamsburg, Stevenson joined Cypress Baptist Church of Elberon, Virginia, where he was an active member. 

Stevenson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Bailey; and siblings, Willie Bailey, James Bailey, Majorie Bailey, Theresa Bailey, and Ada Lozell Thompson.

He is survived by his children, Kecia Baker of Snellville, GA, Rodney Bailey of Surry County, VA, Terry Thomas of Yorktown, VA, and Tony Thomas of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Bryce, Naomi, Kamaya, Jahdell, and Norah; siblings, Emma B. Robinson of Richmond, VA, Henry Bailey Sr. and Albert Bailey, both of Surry County, VA; devoted nephew Henry Bailey Jr.; devoted friends, Linda Byrd Bailey and Phyllis Johnson; honorary friends, Shirley Thomas and Sharon Thomas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Cypress Baptist Church, Elberon.  Interment to follow in Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield.  Mr. Bailey may be viewed on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
