On Monday, March 7, 2022, Valarie E. Fields "Val" put on her heavenly wings and ascended to her Heavenly Home, answering the Master’s call. Her life began on April 11, 1963, the beautiful daughter of the late Alice Faye Fields and James Jones. After her birth mother was called home to heaven, her aunt/momma the late Mary L. Welsh "Bug" raised her and her siblings.
In Mary's home, everyone was raised up to praise the Lord. Val accepted Christ at an early age and joined the House of Prayer #5 under the leadership of the late Bishop C. Arrington.
Val graduated from York High School in 1981. She continued her education graduating from Kee Business College with a diploma in Computer Office Applications in 2011. She later attended Everest College and in 2013 she received a diploma in Medical Administrative Assisting. She was a hard worker and in 2021, she retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge after thirty-two years of service.
Val loved her family and friends and was the life of the party. When she entered the room, you knew she was there, because she would have you laughing from the time she came in until the time she left. She stayed on the go, from going to bingo with her best friend Bernice Jones, to playing cards with her Parrott/Gatewood family; she just loved having fun and enjoying life. She loved spoiling her grandchildren, siblings, and children; especially her boy Mari. She might not have said "I Love you" always, but from her actions, you always knew her love was there.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Fields and ShiQuita Fields; two brothers, Eugene Welsh and Orlando Welsh; and brother-in-law, Vernon Taylor.
Valarie leaves her precious memories with her daughter, Tamniqua Fields; two sons, Michael "Andre" Parrott (Julie) and Shawn Parrott; five grandchildren, A'amariyon Fields, Jah'Kiera' Goddard, Ramzy Parrott, Major Parrott, and Roman Parrott; her special friend, Milton Parrott; siblings, Sonja Stamp (James), Elwood Fields (Melinda), Alvester Fields, Eddie Dixon, Reginald Fields, Frederick Fields, Kelly Brown, James Walker, Lisa Dixon, Darlene Saunders, Cynthia Taylor, Anthony Welsh (Juanita), and Gary Welsh; her only living aunt, Rosia Lee Turner of Illinois; nephew-in-love, Frank "Prince" Parrott; sister-in-love, Bernice Jones; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A service to celebrate Valarie's life will be held at noon Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Zion Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Ms. Fields may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, in the funeral home. Facial coverings are recommended for all services.
