On June 24, 2026, God called Vernard A. Lewis home to be with the angels.
Vernard attended Denbigh High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began a career as a long-distance truck driver. He, later worked at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia, where he remained until his retirement. Throughout his life, he touched the lives of those around him with his kindness, strength, and caring spirit.
Vernard was a devoted Washington Commanders fan who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. More than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, Jalen, Jalisa, and Jay Sean. They were the joy of his life and brought him endless happiness.
Vernard will be remembered for his dedication, his love for family and friends, and the positive impact he made on everyone who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in person, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Vernard leaves to cherish his memory his beloved niece, Tasha; his nephew, BJ; his stepdaughter, Phyllis Jackson; his closest and dearest friend, Christopher; and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever treasure the love, kindness, and memories they shared with him.
May God grant him eternal rest and surround his loved ones with comfort, peace, and strength during this difficult time. Though he has departed from this earthly life, his love and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
