Viola Ashlock Willis entered into the gates of Heaven to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 30, 2020, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg. Her earthly journey began on January 9, 1920, the daughter of Soloman and Mattie Ethel Ashlock, in James City County, VA.
Early in life, Viola was a member of Union Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to First Baptist Church. She served as an usher for over twenty-five years and was one of the oldest, active members of the Missionary Ministry.
On November 14, 1952, Viola was united in holy matrimony to the late Cue Willis, Sr.
“Ma Vi”, as she was affectionally called, was very independent. She enjoyed raising children, traveling, attending senior citizen programs, community events and many church functions. She loved people, especially her church family and her Lafayette Boulevard neighbors who called, visited and made sure she had transportation. Viola was so appreciative of the church missionary ministry and the community celebrating her 100th birthday with her on January 9, 2020. She really cherished each moment and loved the time spent surrounded by friends and family.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Emmett, Ernest, Fred, Willie, James, Junius, and Calvin; three sisters, Carrie Clarke, Lucille Taliaferro, and Marie Houston; two sons, Harold Ashlock and Cue Horace Willis.
Left to cherish her precious memories, her sister, Clara Washington; brother, Leroy Ashlock; two sons, Charles Willis (Shirley) and Lawrence Willis; grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at First Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. A viewing will be held one hour prior to her service.
