Virginia M. Taylor

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Virginia M. Taylor answered the Masters’ call in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.  Her life began on August 22, 1937, the youngest born to the late Moses and Mayedia Moore in Williamsburg, Virginia.

At an early age, Virginia was baptized and joined Zion Baptist Church in Lightfoot, VA.  She was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County school system, then later returned to receive her GED.  Virginia retired from Eastern State Hospital after 26 years of service with the housekeeping department.

Virginia was married to the late George W. Taylor Sr., and from this union, they were blessed with nine children. She was always very concerned about her children, whom she loved dearly.

Anyone who knew her loved her, and she was a second mom to many.  Virginia saw the good in everything and everyone, never complaining about anything.  She was kind, compassionate, considerate, and remained a strong woman to the very end.  Our hearts were broken the moment you closed your eyes. We love you and you will be greatly missed by your children and other loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her sons, George Jr., Terrance, Kenneth, Clarence, Michael, and Eric Taylor, and granddaughters, Aronda Cary and Shawna Cary-Hall.  She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Odessa Cary of Toano, Yvonne Kee (James) of Williamsburg; son, Richard Taylor of Williamsburg; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Fred D. Moore Sr. (Ann) of Williamsburg; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, March 29, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements.  Facebook Livestream will be available for this service.  Interment to follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Taylor may be viewed on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
