It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of William M. Washington Jr., also called "Bill or Butch," on January 3, 2025.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-six years, Linda; son Eric; grandchildren, Eric Anthony, Leaynne, Kelly, and Jalen; and sister Vivian Washington.
William was predeceased by his parents Eloise and William Washington Sr., and brother Melvin Washington.
William’s early life was spent in York County, where he was born. He graduated from James Weldon Johnson High School in York County and continued his education at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, NC. Following his years at A & T, he joined the U.S. Army, honorably serving four years.
Before leaving the army, Bill married his college sweetheart Linda. After their marriage, Bill and Linda moved to New York. They spent several years in the Bronx, later moving to New Jersey, where they lived for many years. This was also where their son Eric was born. In 2003 Bill and Linda decided to return close to their birthplaces Bill in (York County) and Linda in (Elizabeth, NC).
Bill had a very long and successful career with the U.S. Postal Service as a Criminal Investigator.
Bill enjoyed a good golf game and was a former member of the Williamsburg Country Club. His love of water resulted in him owning a boat, which allowed him to spend time fishing at his leisure. Cruising the Caribbean brought him special pleasure and his cruise to Hawaii was at the top of his special cruises.
Bill was a faithful parishioner at St. Bede Catholic Church. He was also a long-time and very active member of the Knights of Columbus.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Commonwealth Senior Living facility in Williamsburg for their care and compassion during the final years of Bill’s life.
A memorial mass in honor of Bill's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Saint Bede Catholic Church.
