On June 14, 1980, William Harvey Middlebrooks was born in Rock Hill, SC, two minutes after his twin, Willie Jr. William entered into eternal life on September 23, 2025.
He is survived by his wife Yovonda Middlebrooks of Newport News, VA; his mother Nancy Bumpass of Newport News, VA; sister Nancy Smalls (Jerome) of Yorktown, VA; niece Niyala Steele and nephew Terrance Steele, both of Newport News, VA; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, special step granddaughter, great-aunts, aunts, great-uncles, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Middlebrooks Sr., brother Willie Middlebrooks Jr., and sister Katrina Jackson.
William was educated in Newport News Public Schools. As a teenager, he started his journey to become a Muslim and completed that journey as a young man. He was a skilled painter and skilled in power tools for AMP United.
On June 11, 2019, he was united in holy matrimony to Yovonda and became a stepfather to Treyquan Bennafield, Dante Blockett Jr., Tayvion Blockett, and Serenity Bennafield. He also became the step-grandfather to Maggie and met his great-nephew, Amais King, and great-niece Kireina Skyy, who adored him.
William, also referred to as “Twin,” by his closest family and friends, was a loving, friendly, talented, hilarious, and caring man. He was well-respected, loved, and honored. To know him was to love him unconditionally. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He put his family first and was a pure delight to be around.
He has gone through many tough journeys, and now he is embarking on his next one. May we see him again in another lifetime while his memories stay alive within our hearts.
