Willie Purnell Parker was called to eternal rest on December 16, 2025, at the age of 83. A man of deep faith, quiet strength, and enduring service. He was born on May 18, 1942, to the late H. Purnell and Ruth Parker of Williamsburg, Virginia. He was the second of four children and was preceded in death by his brothers, David Parker and Floyd Parker.
Willie was a proud 1960 graduate of Bruton Heights High School. He later matriculated at Tuskegee University, where he majored in Food Administration and graduated in 1965. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country with distinction until his honorable discharge. Having previously worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation during high school, he returned to start a new path that led to Master of the Print Shop, where he retired after over 30 years of service.
At a young age, Willie accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He served tirelessly as a dedicated member and deacon of Union Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he was known for his humility, wisdom, and steadfast devotion to God and God’s people.
Beyond the church, he was an influential African American leader in Williamsburg. He played a significant role in advocating for civil rights, community development, and the advancement of African Americans during a period of profound social change in the mid-20th century. His work was firmly rooted in the broader struggle for equality and justice that shaped African American history in Virginia and across the nation. Willie’s legacy continues to live on through the institutions he helped build, the history he preserved, and the countless lives he touched through faith, service, and leadership. His contributions are recognized in local historical accounts and remembered fondly by community organizations, colleagues, and friends.
Willie's memory and legacy will forever remain with, his devoted wife of forty-nine years Deloris; children, Anthony Parker of Williamsburg, Virginia, Darius Parker (Elsa) of Sterling, Virginia, and Djuanwa Cooke (Dedric Sr.) of Palmyra, Virginia; grandchildren, Queen Parker, Aaliyah Cooke, Dedric Cooke Jr., Dhani Cooke, and Jelani Parker; great-grandchildren, Ariyah Parker and Alayah Parker; one sister, Ruth Pryor of King George, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Verne Parker of Williamsburg, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Deacon Parker will be remembered as a man of faith, a servant-leader, a historian, and a steadfast pillar of the Williamsburg community.
A service to celebrate Deacon Parker's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Bethel Restoration Center with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
