Willie Williams Obituary

Willie Junior Williams, age 69, passed away on February 12, 2026. Born on June 13, 1956, in Elizabeth City, NC, he lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family.

He graduated from Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, NC in 1974, and soon after answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the armed forces. A proud member of the United States Air Force, Willie served his country honorably for twenty years before retiring as a Technical Sergeant. During his time in service, his commitment to duty and integrity reflected the deep sense of responsibility he carried throughout his life.

Long before he wore a uniform, he showed an early entrepreneurial spirit by collecting pop bottles and returning them for a small profit. What some may have seen as spare change, he saw as an opportunity, a glimpse of the determination and initiative that would define his life.

Following his military career, he worked as a brewer at Anheuser-Busch where he later retired.

Willie was known for his steady presence, sense of humor, generosity, wisdom, and work ethic. Even as a young man, his drive and resourcefulness were evident. Whether through quiet acts of service or steadfast support, he made a lasting impact on those around him.

He found great joy in watching his favorite sports teams and engaging in lively debates about current events. Whether it was game day or the evening news, he always had an opinion — and he enjoyed sharing it.  Willie will be remembered for his faithful service to his country, his unwavering devotion to his family, and the quiet strength that defined his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Gurvis Lewis Williams, and brothers, Minister Antonio ‘Ray’ Williams (Betty) and Gurvis McCoy Williams (Brenda).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Renee; children, Dwayne Williams (Paula) and Reyata DeLaigle; grandchildren, Ahkirah M. Thompkins, Khalih D. Williams, Iyanna N. Williams, Zhanae S. Williams, Zanaiya N. Williams, Asia D. Williams, Baron DeLaigle, and Zariyah DeLaigle; mother, Madeline Williams; siblings, Shelia Jacox, Darline Cole (Ernest), and Paul Williams (Denise) of Elizabeth City; Brenda Parker (Michael) of Panama City, FL; and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss him.
